A comma after a subject

Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, commonly referred to as simply Legends of the Dark Knight is a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_Comics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comic_book featuring http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman.

I'd like to know what role the comma before "commonly" plays.
