A combined question about "the" and use of plural.

Hi everyone,

I've been confused with the use of "the" for a long time, especially in the following struture:
the (A) of the (B)

1. Do I have to use a "the" before the noun A everytime I put a "the" before the noun B? and vice versa

2. Does A(measuring word) have to be plural if B is plural?

A example for Question 2 I can think of right now:

this type of questions? vs. these types of questions?

Those questions are the most common type of questions?

I like to talk to different kind(s) of people.
