A cloth or a piece of cloth

Hello everyone,

Is either phrase "a cloth" or "a piece of cloth" correct in the following?

1. He is wearing a cloth over his eyes.

2. He is wearing a piece of cloth over his eyes.

I am not sure if the word "cloth" countable in English.
