"A close relation" and "A near relation"

Hi

Would you say that the use of a close relation is as natural as a near relation? And I guess there's only one opposite: a distant relation.

Please confirm.

Thanks,

Tom

All combinations of "close"/"near" and "relative"/"relation" are used. To me, "close" and "relative" come most readily. "distant" is the most obvious choice of opposite, but I guess "remote relative" is feasible too.
