Using Google translator, I got the following:

"A wise man is a lover of wisdom through suffering, a comedian through happiness."

I might understand the first part.

Does it mean that a wise man loves gaining wisdom through hard work, struggle, and facing obstacles?

Not so much. It doesn't make sense on first reading, and the translation seems to be rather literal. In English, you can't be a lover of something by something. And if I try to make sense of it anyway, I run into ambiguity. Does he love "wisdom by suffering", or does he by suffering love wisdom? Neither way makes sense,
