"A Christmas Day " vs "the Christmas Day " vs "Christmas Day "

What's the difference between these three sentences and are these all correct?

Gift giving takes place on Christmas Day in most countries.

vs

Gift giving takes place on a Christmas Day in most countries.

vs

Gift giving takes place on the Christmas Day in most countries.

2. Is it that we can say Christmas day without an article preceding it because Christmas is a proper name?

Thanks!

Dib Is it that we can say Christmas D ay without an article preceding it because Christmas is a proper name? Not only can you say it without an article, you must say it without an article in the context you have used it. Christmas Day is a proper noun, so it's capitalized and it doesn't take an article.

Hi. Please tell me if we have to put the indefinite article "a" before the phrase "Father's Day" (which I am sure is a proper noun) in the following expression.

Have a nice Father's Day.

Yes, because you are referring to specific Father's Day in a specific year, and, in fact, a specific kind of Father's Day, a nice one.

The adjective "nice" changes everything. The indefinite article ( a) now tells us that a particular holiday can have any number of qualities.

Joe had a happy Father's Day.
Jim had a tragic Father's Day.
Sam had a miserable Father's Day.

etc.
