A chance not to be missed/didn't do to be proud

Hi

A man and a woman talked to each other. The man wanted to give her a present but she didn't want it. However some time later the woman:

... realized suddenly that here was a chance not to be missed. It didn’t do to be proud.

I'm not sure I know how to interpret that bolded part? But I think that "It didn't do to be proud" means "It doesn't pay to be proud"?

Thanks
