A book name in text.

Do I put quotes around a book's name when I'm writing a paper? Or do I underline it? Or nothing?

If you can italicize it, that's best. Second would be underlining it. You use quote for an aritcle within a book.

So if i'm writing a research paper with the title of the book in the title, do i italicize it. For example:

"The Dog"

Yes, italicize or underline book titles; do not place them within quotation marks, as you have done here.
