Are these correct sentences?

(a) I think I have found your lost cat. Is it a black fur with a short tail?

a is wrong. It has black fur. Fur is uncountable when describing the hair of an animal. It is countable if someone has some piec of clothing made of fur, e.g. "That is a nice fur."

b is correct.

I have had cats for 15 years, and have never used coat to describe their fur. More often, I just say 'She's brown." But the word coat does have the same meaning. I think it is used more by professionals working with animals.
