What does "a bit of a boob" mean in the following sentence? Especially I don't know what "a bit of" means in these sentences?

1. Forgetting the president's name was a bit of a boob.
2. I made a bit of a boob deleting that file.

I have never heard this expression. In American English the word is "boo-boo". It means "mistake".
