A bit of

After a troop fought a lot of zombies to save some young people, the commander says, "You kids doing all right? Sorry about all the fuss. We had ourselves a bit of a swarm".

I think 'had' is 'enjoyed' and 'a swarm' refers to the zombies, but does 'a bit of' here mean 'rather'?
