I googled the words and find out the answer :

The sound echoed through the forest the birds scattered from their trees,

How about 'dispersed in all directions'? Does that mean the same?

Yes, it means the same but to me scatter is probably a better choice here. It gives the reader a better 'picture.'

How about something like "The sound echoed through the forest and the bird scattered from their trees, flapping their wings into the sky."
