A bad leg/back, what else can be bad?

"Bad" can mean "causing pain or not working very well", according to Macmillan Dictionary. There are common phrases like "he has a bad leg, so he cannot walk very well" or "I have a bad back".

I wonder what other words can be used with "bad" besides "leg", "back", stomach". Obviously, you cannot say "I have a bad head" (or can you?) Can you say "a bad neck/shoulder/arm/hand/finger"?

Top answer

Not 'bad head', but the others seem OK to me, and 'hip', 'ear', 'knee', 'eyes', 'wrist', 'ankle', 'elbow'.

Thanks. "Bad ear" seems a bit surprising to me. Does that mean one has earache?

Not usually; it means one is partially deaf or unable to distinguish musical tones accurately.

Not my dog. Every day she had cookies that actually improved her breath.

If you're talking about the heart, it would be better to say "a weak heart." "A bad heart" sounds like the person is cruel or evil.
