Here is the sentence: The active ingredient is the extract of a herb...... I know the rule is an if there is a vowel, but herb doesn't have the sound of a consenant at the beginning. It just seems to me to sound funny with a herb. Is it correct to change it to an herb? please help thanks

Only in American English is herb pronounced without the 'h'. In other English speaking countries the 'h' is clearly pronounced. Take your pick
