1 The killers who were after the girl intercepted the police car she was in on her way to the safe house and recaptured her. (is INTERCEPT the word?)

2 I want to be straight with you./come straight with you and tell you the truth.

3 The characters transition from sadness to happiness is a bit rash/abrupt.

4 I'd like to thank you for your work on my campaign.

5 Everything bad that's ever happened to you in your lifetime isn't half as bad as what's happened to me in the past 24 hours./wouldn't fit into half of what's happened to me in the past 24 hours.

It would work if the tables were turned. "The police intercepted the killers and took them into custody." We assume the police have firepower equal to or greater than that of the killers. Killers are not necessarily an assault team.
There's something unlikely about your usage. In my opinion, "intercept" describes the logistics, not the confrontation. You need to make it clear, and stress that the "killers" somehow overpowered the police to recapture the girl. (The police are in the business of intercepting and capturing people; killers are usually not.)

2 I want to be straight with you./come ~~straight~~ clean with you and tell you the truth.

3 The characters transition from sadness to happiness is a bit rash/abrupt. "Characters" needs to be possessive - either singullar or plural. (If it's plural, probably "transition" would be plural also.)
