6 questions related to a transcript of 60 minutes

Dear teachers,

I would like to have your help for the 6 questions related to a transcript of 60 minutes
seen below:

* sources: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/chobani-yogurt-billionaire-founder-on-creating-jobs-in-america/

Hamdi Ulukaya: Anybody in the community who wanted to work for those years would find a job at

Chobani. Anybody, we were hiring. And if they were not working for us, they were working for the

contractors that were doing job for us. Because the-- my-- my number one thing is I was gonna

hire everyone local before I go outside.

Hamdi’s recruiting effort included a stop at a refugee resettlement center in the city of Utica 40 miles

away, where he heard they were having trouble finding people work.

Hamdi Ulukaya: They said, “Well, the language is a barrier. And transportation.” I said, “OK, let’s try

some. I will hire translators. And we’ll provide transportation. Let them come and make yogurt with us.

Steve Kroft: And they worked out?

Hamdi Ulukaya: Oh, perfectly. And they are the most loyal, hard, working people along with everyone

else right now in our plant in here, we have 19 different nationalities, 16 different translators.

(1) Job

As far as I know, job is a countable noun, so I think it should be expressed as follows:

  • They were working for the contractors that were doing the job for us.

or

  • They were working for the contractors that were doing a job for us.

(2) a stop

The meaning of a stop here means literally Hamidi used to stop at the center or any other meaning?

  • Hamdi’s recruiting effort included a stop at a refugee resettlement center in the city of Utica 40 miles away.

(3) He heard they were having trouble finding people work.

I think it should be corrected as follows:

  • He heard they were having trouble (in) finding jobs.

or

  • He heard they were having trouble (in) people's finding work.

What do you think of this?

(4) Translator

My understanding is that a translator works on written tasks while an interpreter works on spoken tasks.

However, I saw people refer to a "translator" even when related to the verbal works, whereas people do not mention an "interpretor" regarding the written works.

Could you please let me know the difference between a translator and an interpreter in meaning in definition and in practice?

(5) Loyal, hard, working people

I think it should be edited as follows:

  • They are the most loyal, hard, working people along with everyone else right now in our plant in here.
  • They are the most loyal, hard working people along with everyone else right now in our plant here.

Is this correct?

I look forward to having your help soon.

Thanks and best regards,

David Kim
