5 Alternatives don't know which word to use?

Could you please help me with these 5 sentences?

1 Try to make less noise (while) drinking.
2 There are four hooks two of which are being used. So hang your coat elsewhere.
3 I can alleviate/appease/subside, but I can't suppress it.
4 What shoes size are you/What size shoe are you.
5 I wish there was a device you could point at people and you'd know what nationality they were.

For 3, If you have a tic,
would it be

I can subside it but not suppress it/appease it....?

And both number 4 are oK?

I think you would say you can suppress it (for a time), but you can't prevent it or eliminate it completely.
(The other verbs you suggest really don't work here. "Subside" is intransitive.)
