40% Up

Quick background: An American newspaper that I shall call X changed three years ago from daily publication to weekly publication.

This morning I read on a British news website that the weekly newspaper has 66,000 paid subscribers, "40% up on its

former daily circulation."

Excuse me for being such a poor reader and stupid math student:

What was X's "former daily circulation" if the weekly version is "40% up" on it?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Thank you for your answer. I did read it on the website of a British newspaper that is (in)famous for its typos.

How about

X's former daily circulation * 7 (days of the week) * 1.4 (40% increase) = 66000

Solving this equation for X's former daily circulaton we get

X's former daily circulation = 66000/( 7 (days of the week) * 1.4 (40% increase) = 6735

John Paris and Ivanhr:

Thank you very much for your kindness in answering my question.

May I most respectfully let you know about an answer that I received from another person?

He says that if the current weekly newspaper has 66,000 subscribers and if that number is "40% up on" [greater

than] the subscription numb
