Perhaps it could be automatically made clear somewhere that at least a thank-you is expected, as this is part of English culture, and ultimately lack of appreciation is undermining to your morale and motivation. Personally I recognize that you both are devoting significant time and energy to help people for free. I have seen more gratitude expressed on other sites, and I am not sure why there is so little here. I hesitate to say that you are both being taken for a ride, or used and abused; but at some stage perhaps a line needs to be drawn. As to feedback and how much there are end-benefits those submitting writing, it is probably hard for them to tell, unless at some later stage they get a spectacular exam result or similar.
