3 questions

Hello,
I got 3 questions :

1.)
My task was to fill word in "Could you give me a ___ to the station ?"
I wrote "ride" and my teacher said its wrong and there should be "lift" . Is "ride" ok ?
2.) If you would have to write "elegant dress" without using "elegant" which word would be better - "spectacular" or "smart" ?
3.) Is it possible to write sentence " I never take a watch when I´m on holiday." ?

And the meaning would be "I dont take that thing which shows time when I on holiday" right ? Or " I dont obey my duty (as a watchman or whatever) because I´m on a holiday" ?

In my culture, the term 'watch' is seldom used with the other meaning.

Even if you did want to refer to taking your turn being on duty, I'm familiar with "Standing watch" but not "taking a watch."
