2nd or 3rd conditional

How about hypothesizing about past historical events: 'If I fought in the WWII' or 'If I had fought in the WWII'? 'If I had been fighting in Warsaw uprising' or 'If I were fighting in the Warsaw uprising'?
Any suggestions much appreciated

Anonymous 'If I fought in the WWII' No 'the'. As a hypothesis, this says 'if I go to fight in WWII when it comes (in the future)". Obviously, you can't use this because WWII is in the past.
