250 words?

I'm studying for the IELTS exam and in one of the writing exercises I'm required to write an essay of no less than 250.
How do I know if I've reached the required words-number? I'm not even writing on "WORD".
How can you tell the number of words you've written in the paper?

Hi, You could count them. Even if you just do it in your practices, it will give you a fair idea of how much space that takes. Clive

What are you writing on? You should have a word-count function. If not, how about downloading the free OPENOFFICE? Otherwise, you can guess at 200-250 words per A4 page...but it depends on your type size and spacing.

In my school, we always have to count the words in exams. It just takes a few minutes depending on how much you wrote.

You could limit yourself to 10-word sentences, and then just count the sentences and multiply by ten.

Hi,

If you don't want to count, try this.

Get an idea of how much space 250 words usually fills.

If it's eg three quarters of a page, just write a page in the exam.

Or count.

Using a sensitive set of scales, establish, through a series of experiments, the average weight of ink applied to the paper per word. In the exam, weigh the blank sheet of paper, and then periodically re-weigh as your essay proceeds. To estimate the number of words, divide the weight increase by the value you obtained in the first step.

In the exam it might be really problematic. I agree with you. Clive's idea is a good option. I don't think your teacher will check the words, just if you wrote too less. So check your writing, and write an essay with around 250 words.
I would advise you to use the same pencil. With a quick overview you should see whether you wrote enough. The more you practice to get 250 words, the more you a
