This is the first time I write a 250 word essay which is the most difficult task for me when learning English.
So if you guys don't mind, please correct it so it sounds naturally in your language.
If you think something should be changed or added, I just wanna say 'thank you so much'.
Because of my poor vocabulary, you see the essay sounds not good at all. If you have time, please correct it using a good range of vocabulary .
Thank you so much for that.
This is the question:
Some people think that the main purpose of school and university education should be to prepare people for work. Others, however, think that the true role of education is to make us better citizens.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Here is my writing:
It's important that young people become knowledgeable citizens who understand different cultures and complex media debates. Some argue that in schools and universities we should therefore encourage students to study subjects like religious education, languages and literature. Others suggest that the proper role of education systems is to prepare young people for the job market, training them in subjects like business studies, statistics or computer science. This essay will discuss both views.
There are many convincing reasons why training young people to become good citizens should be a higher priority of educational institutions. Firstly, education plays a vital role in a person's future success which needs not only good expertise but also great soft skills (team working, being able to get along well with others, social, communicating skills,...). Secondly, nowadays people change their job regularly, even do not work in their own field. If they're not well-prepared for such situations and not flexible enough, they will not be able to adapt. Therefore, education should teach young people to be good citizens who are self-confident, flexible and well-educated. This means young people will be able to learn and teach themselves to adjust to whatever happens even though the situation is completely new for them.
There are also many other reasons why education should teach people about work. First, I think they need to gain enough knowledge of their field therefore they can easily apply for jobs in the future. Next, our society needs a high quality workforce which helps it keep up with worldwide trends. This is an essential purpose of education. Those points show that education makes significant contributions to the general improvement of our society.
From my point of view, even though education is important to prepare people for work because we need a job and a high salary to provide for our family, it's more important to prepare for good citizens who are flexible and sensible enough to deal with any circumstances happening regularly at any time in their life.
