The 2008 screenplay competition winners were announced this weekend at Austin, and one of my former client, Anita Skibski, won for the best drama script. In my book, winning at Austin is second only to winning the Nicholl competition put on by the Oscars Academy (and maybe even more interesting because of the nature of Austin).

The 2008 AFF Screenplay and Teleplay Winners (winners were selected by category):
Drama Screenplay: ³Mine² Anita Skibski

In 2006, Anita won the ASA award, and you can read about it and her here:

Another couple I'm developing a TV show with were finalists in the competition, but I had no input on their script.
Since I hadn't heard from Anita for some time. I sent her a congratulatory note and got the following response. The "board" she refers to is my Yahoo discussion group "Skip's Hollywood Hangout". Here's Anita:
Dear Skip,
I was thinking about you on the plane home last night, and planning to email YOU today...you beat me to it!
I was remembering how you were the FIRST professional I sent the script to for coverage, and how much you helped me. Your comments were right on the money, and I can honestly say that MINE hasn't changed much since that first, post-Skip rewrite.

Feel free to put that on your website if you like. It's the truth.
I still read the board when I can (soccer/swimmming/baseball/band mom, heaven help me) to keep up on the old gang and see who the new kids are.
Thank you for the note, Skip. When I come out to LA again, I'd like to take you to lunch. Pick somewhere swanky.
Love,
~A
