2 sentences?

Is it acceptable to use "not only A but also B" construction in the following way? Maybe it's best to use that construction in one sentence, but if it's too long, is it possible to make two sentences out of it?

It is not only important to show respect for others and treat them as you would want to be treated. It is also important to respect their boundaries and stay out of their private matters.

Ah, I see! If one sentence flows more naturally, I should turn two sentences into one;) Thank you very much for your advice, GPY:)
