The sentences have too many redundancies. In my view they would be better if written something like: In 2001 news articles were popping up all over the internet about what science has discovered about meditation. Several types of meditation have been studied.

The sentences have too many redundancies. In my view they would be better if written something like:
In 2001 news articles were popping up all over the internet about what science has discovered about meditation. Several types of meditation have been studied.
