2 past tense?

Can there be 2 past tense words side by side in a sentence?

E.g. The fish I bought died when I reached home.

Top answer

the first verb bought is in the clause and the second verb died is in the main sentence. It doesn't mean 2 verbs joined together. So the sentence is fine I guess.
