2 dependent clauses in 1 sentence?

I need know if you can have more than 1 depend clause in a sentence for my public speaking a class speech. Would this example be correct English.
EXAMPLE: Since they have to stay under water, they can't survive the sand bars of beaches, so that means that when we see them they are already dead.
