TOPIC: International travel has become much cheaper, and there are more and more tourists. Do the advantages of the increased tourism outweigh the disadvantage?

These days, as traveling abroad becomes more affordable, the number of tourists has increased considerably. Personally, I think the negative impacts of this trend are greater significance than its merits and will explain my reasons in this essay.

One the one hand, the increased number of tourism has benefited the individuals and society in many ways. For instance, thanks to cheap travel, visiting a foreign countries is no longer costly and out of reach, many people nowadays can easily pay visit any countries that they want. Through those trips, visitors have the opportunity to learn more about people and culture of different countries as well as broaden their horizon about the diversity of the world. Moreover, cheap travel encourages the development of tourist industry and thus benefits the economy. Take Thailand as an example, since international traveling becomes more accessible, millions of tourists have visit this country every year and create a huge influx of money for the country.

However, having more people travel could cause detrimental effects on the environment and unfortunately, most of them are irreversible. Firstly, a immense quantity of pollutants emitting from many means of transportation when traveling between countries has worsened the air quality, and adversely affect people’s health. According to a study, traveling ranks second out of ten factors that greatly contribute to air pollution, at 14%. Additionally, when traveling tourists usually use single-use products, such as plastic bottles, plastic bags, which will be soon littered and create a mountain of trash in tourist sites. As a result, not only those beautiful destinations are turned into a giant landfill, but also the eco-system in those places are severely contaminated with waste.

In conclusion, although international travel has brought about certain benefits, I strongly believe that those advantages do not justify the drawbacks arising from this development
