TOPIC: In some countries, the difference in age between parents and children is generally greater than it was in the past. Do you think the advantages outweigh disadvantages?

In these days and age, couples tend to have children in later age than previous generations did, causing the age gap between parents and children become wider. Despite some inevitable impacts, personally, I strongly believe that the benefits of this development are greater significance than its drawbacks.

On the one hand, having children in late age could have some downsides. To begin with, when people are aging, their physical conditions get weaker and thus, it is more difficult and in some cases dangerous for a women to give birth in the late age. A statistical study shows that the mortality rate at birth of a child is corresponding to the mother’s age, which means the older the mothers are, the less likely their child could survive. Furthermore, the discrepancy in age would potentially cause a big generation gap between parents and children.Family disputes and arguments are likely to occur more frequently as the two generations can not find mutual opinions.

However, I believe those aforementioned drawbacks are insignificant compared to the merits of this tendency. Firstly, delaying parenthood gives would-be-parents more time to prepare themselves financially. It is due to the fact that raising a child could be very costly as there are so many fees and expenditures that need to be covered. Without thoroughly preparing and planning, having children could place a huge financial burden on the couples. Moreover, in the later age, people have been through many things in their life, and thus there are a lot of valuable lessons and real-life experiences that they can teach their children. As a result, those children are more well brought up and theoretically, tend to surpass their peers in many aspects of life.

In conclusion, although having children in the late age could inflict some negative impacts, the benefits it brings about definitely override those disadvantages.
