, 17 years old and no one to turn to except each other,

An 8-year-old girl is taken from her home and convinced that her family does not want her anymore. After enduring years of horror, she and her fellow victim are dumped by their captors. Now, 17 years old and no one to turn to except each other, they do their best to survive life on the streets, until one day she finally accepts the help of a shelter counselor to find her way home.

I think the underlined phrase should originally be like the following.
:, being 17 years old and no and having no one to turn to except each other,
So I think "being" is omitted and "having" is missing; am I right?
And I'd like to know whether the underlined participle phrase is grammatical.

park sang joon So I think "being" is omitted and "having" is missing; am I right? I don't see any omission except 'with' before 'no one'.

Now, [17 years old] and [with no one to turn to except each other], they do their best to survive...

I see them both as adjectives modifying 'they', but I suppose the prepositional phrase could equally be considered adverbial.
