Usually you'd say "a hundred and fifty-six centimetres" or "one hundred and fifty-six centimetres". In the USA, they sometimes leave out the 'and' - "one hundred fifty-six" - but they don't typically measure in the metric system, as far as I know. You could also say "one metre, fifty-six centimetres" or "one point five six metres".
