15 years to life in prison

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A former Los Angeles Fire Department captain was sentenced on Friday to 15 years to life in prison for second-degree murder.

15 years to life in prison? I wonder how long this man will serve in prison. Is it still anybody's guess?

If someone is sentenced to 15 years in prison, then he's going to spend 15 years in prison, isn't he? If someone is sentenced to life in prison, then he's going to spend the rest of his life in prison, isn't he?

He will serve at least 15 years in prison, but might spend his entire life in prison, depending on, among other factors, his behavior in prison, his attitude towards his crime, the victim's family's input, etc.

He was sentenced to 15-to-life, but if my avid pursuit of TV police dramas serves me well, parole can often come before that minimum sentence is served out.

Hi,

It depends on the legal system in the country that he is convicted in.

There may, for example, be a possibility of parole at some point.
