10 sentences meaning

Hello, could you please check whether the sentences below are correct. Inside the paranthesis I wrote the word that I want to use in the sentence. If I am using it wrong, will you please use it in a correct way. Thanks.

1-(self-effacing)- He is a self-effacing gentleman who never talks about his success and money.

2-(streak)- The captain of the ship had a sword streak on his face which made him wear an eyepatch.

3-(tenuous)- He was extremely paranoid that, he used to deduce a lot of different meanings from normal events having tenuous connections.

4-(perfunctory)- He congratulated him for getting a high score in the exam, however his attitudes were perfunctory.

5-(suffuse)- Grief was suffusing into his heart in every direction.

6-(dither)- He works very innefficiently since he dithers on details more than normal.

7-(simmer)- I knew that anger was simmering inside him, however he was the most patient man I have ever seen, so he could calm himself.

8-(wean)- After a short time he could wean himself off from cigaratte.

9-(oblivious)- He was oblivious to the facts, thus his remarks didn't find a lot of attention from the other scientists.
