Here is what I thought, I was looking for opinions on themes as well as ideas behind each character but I have found some help with this on other forums. Thank you!

1. Why does Mr. Henry permanently leave the MacTeer household?
Mr. Henry permanently left the MacTeer household because Della was just too clean for him. 2. Explain why Claudia hates Shirley Temple.
Claudia hates Shirley Temple not because she was cute, but because she danced with Bojangles when he should have been spending time with her. Jealousy caused most of the hatred towards Shirley Temple.
3. Briefly describe the meeting between Cholly and his father.
The meeting between Cholly and his father was not a pleasant one after just being released from jail and quite hungover from the night before a fight broke out and quite a few altercations occurred during that time frame.
4. Who is Poland?
Miss Poland is one of the three whores that live in the apartment above the Breedloves storefront.
5. To get blue eyes, Pecola follows Soaphead Church’s instructions to make “an offering.” Briefly describe this offering.
Church’s instructions were to kill a dog which the betrayals cause Pecola to lose her mind, giving her delusions of having blue eyes, her only comfort of not being ugly.
6. What happens to Pauline after she gets her hair done like Jean Harlow?
Pauline bites into a hard piece of candy after doing her hair like Jean Harlow, and a tooth falls out. After this occurrence, she no longer wants to do her hair.
7. Describe Pecola’s opinion of dandelions.
Pecola does not see the dandelions as ugly which many people reference as a burden. She finds them quite pretty and begins to think beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
8. A character named Geraldine has a brief encounter with Pecola. Briefly describe this scene.
This scene almost seems too good to be true, almost like a fairytale created to comfort someone who is in search of beauty and perfection, at least from what the world perceives it as... quite the scary scene to read!

9. How does Pauline get her nickname “Polly”?
Pauline was given a nickname she was denied as a child, Polly. She takes care of a wealthy family’s home that offers her what she was looking for, especially after all her misfortunes.
10. Briefly describe the main differences between Maureen Peale and Claudia.
The main differences between Maureen Peale and Claudia would be there bringing up as children. Both colored of some sort but acted differently, Maureen was wealthy and accepted everyone’s assumptions whereas Claudia was more of a Rebel towards the ideology behind white beauty and how it affected people of color.
