0I think many native speakers would say "It was the football team who donated money," having in mind that "the team" meant "the members of the team." Maybe "that" or "which" is "more correct" in this case but "who" does not sound bad or unnatural to me. (Not, for instance, like "this is the football who needs more air," which would definitely sound wrong, wrong, wrong!)0-
