You mean if I get 4 marks out of 10, I can't say I get a passing mark.

4 out of 10 is considered one mark,
eg 4 out of 10 in math and 5 ou of 30 n physics is spoken of as two marks.

Q -What was your mark in French?
A - 4 out of 20.
