Heritage as a concept through the prism of time.

Does the above under-lined part mean that we are looking at heritage over a period of time? I mean its evolution as time progressed. Am I right? If not, then please tell me what the correct interpretation of it is. I have also given the link to the article.

Seeing life through the prism of success.

Does it mean that we look at our life based on success? But I don't understand what the end result of our seeing that way would be. Would it be our opinion of our life till date? I mean if one has succeeded, then he has led a good life? What does the looking connote? Please help me understand it.

Thank you.

A prism is contrasted with flat glass. When you look through a flat glass, you see things as they really are, as if there was nothing there. When you look through a prism, you see something different.

Time is a prism. You can look back, and not remember the bad stuff, only the goo

Alphecca, I have come across the phrase 'through the lens of', often. Please tell me how the meaning of the above examples would change when 'through the prism of' is replaced by 'through the lens of'.

Thanks

What does a lens do? That will give you a hint.

Yes. Prism splits into different components, whereas lens doesn't distort the view, through which we see.

But I can't seem to find a grammatical difference.

If I say 'seeing life through the lens of success' does it mean I see the true reasons behind my successful life, rather than those that I want to see through prism? Am I right? If not, then please correct me.

Thanks
