1. "He is too good a person to do something like that."
2. "He is too good of a person to do something like that."

I guess the 1st sentence sounds more natural to native speakers and so does for me even though the 2nd one is more grammatical. But in a grammar test, is the 1st sentence acceptable?

I do not agree that the second is more grammatical. Indeed, though the 'of' seems to be becoming more common these days, I consider it incorrect.

So, the first one is very much grammatical and perfect in a test, am I right?

I would recommend that learners avoid this construction in a test.
