Letter Writing

Hi, everyone
I want to ask you to read and check my motivation letter. It's my first time writing one and english isn't my birth language so there might be mistakes. Please tell me your opinion on the letter itself as well. Thanks in advance.

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am currently finishing my last year of high school and I am hoping to enroll in a university in the UK for my further education. I am afraid that my country can offer me little in my field of interest, booth in education and further development. With that in mind, I decided to study abroad. I believe that England will offer me not only superb education but also a chance for further realization.

I started learning English from a very young age and I have often done presentations where there is insufficient material, or none at all, in my birth language and I had to turn to English sources. Reading a book in English just because I cannot wait for it to be translated is not something new to me as well. I realize that it will be difficult to learn in a foreign language, but have confidence in my ability to do so.

In my free time, I enjoy reading. I am a fan of fantasy but what got me interested in biology was Isaac Asimov’s “The Intelligent Man's Guide to the Biological Sciences” that made me aware that science can be interesting and compelling presented in an understandable way. When I was little, I imagined myself as an explorer, traveling around the world and observing different animals like those people on TV. Today I am looking forward not to exploring, but to finding.

I am interested in biology. It is an area of science, that just recently started growing and I have always taken interest in its advancement. This is something that will influence ore future and has the potential to either destroy it, or perfect it. To be able to reprogram the DNA of a cell, to change its purpose and nature, to be able to control it – that is merely an example of what we can do, and the methods of doing it advance further and further every day. Researches that are going to change our lives, and the way we perceive the world are in the making, and I am looking forward to being an active part of them.

The high school I am currently in gives me the rear opportunity for studying university level material, at the biology faculty of the Sofia University, were I have been encouraged to explore various topics and researched the advancement of modern science.

The achievements of scientists all over the world has led to many amazing discoveries that have always astonished me - Doudna and Charpentier started by simply researching bacterial immunity and ended up creating a new method for cell reprograming, one that didn’t demand hours of protein programing and had a very little, if not non, off target effects. The new method was so successful that in recent years it replaced almost all other methods, and has application in many other studies such as designer babies. Shinya Yamanaka discovered that, despite the common believe in the early 20th century, stem cells can be generated from adult cell, and won a Nobel Prize for his research. I believe that science has the power to make incurable diseases, genetic mutations and maybe even death a part of the past.

However, even if we create a cure for all known diseases and fine the key to immortality there may not be a world to live in anymore. We have a beautiful planet and I hate to see all those magnificent landscapes destroyed before I get the chance to draw them, which is way I have taken part in many cleaning campaigns. My favorite kind of relaxation is when during the weekend my family and I go hiking in the mountains or horse riding in Adgor where we are currently training in natural horsemanship. . I enjoy other sports such as volleyball and basketball, which I play at school, but I am also very keen on extreme sports like rafting and climbing though I confess I am still an amateur. Art is another passion of mine and during the week when the weather is bad and going out is not an option I paint or read a good book.

I believe my qualities make me compatible whit your course and I am looking forward to being a part of your community. Thank you in advance for considering my request.
