A : Hey! Where is he?

B: He went to XXX on a holiday trip.

A: What? Why did he go there? That was a dangerous place to visit. If I were/had been (in place of ) him, I wouldn't have gone.

I have two questions here.
1. Which should be there in the sentence, "were" or "had been"?
2. Can I use "in place of" before him?

Top answer

1. If I had been him, I wouldn't has gone. 2.

vkr6078B: He went to *** on a holiday trip.
This is not natural. It would be better as: He went on holiday to ***.

How about He went to *** on holiday? Not so good?
