1. He keeps frightened.
2. He keeps being frightened.

Are these two correct and interchangably used? If there is any difference, what would that be?

For #1, say "He stays frightened." He is always scared.
#2 means that something periodically and consistently frightens him.
Maybe it's an owl that lived in the old tree.
