Hi there,

Is there any tangible difference in meaning between the following sentences:
"Jan was taken to hospital after being knocked down by a car." and
"On being knocked down by a car, Jan was taken to hospital."?

Thanks for your comments in advance.

Paul Evdokimov difference in meaning No. The difference is that the second one is cast in more formal language. You would virtually never hear that construction in an everyday conversation.
