Hi all, I recently read this on Tumblr, 'someone realised mid walk that it wasn't 1994 anymore'. My question is, shouldn't the caption read ' someone realised mid walk that it is not 1994 anymore?. Can you please clarify the difference for me, I know it's got something to do with the event happening in the past.

Anonymous Can you please clarify the difference for me, I know it's got something to do with the event happening in the past. It has to do with the realization happening in the past. Native speakers normally regress the subordinate verb with such main verbs as realize, think, say, suppose , etc.
