Do I hear a little implication that it's not quite correct to say in this order? If so, would "off the hat or socks!" work perfactly?

First, looking again, I wonder whether you actually meant:

Do you say "socks off" or "hat off"?

instead of:

Do you say "socks off or hat off"?
