Hi I wrote this passage but I have doubts about the bold parts.How do you change them?

"During six years of my education in veterinary medicine ,I have learned that one of the biggest purpose of my education was learning knowledge that they helped us to know, how to rear and manage healthy animals for providing healthy food for the human diet.In this respect,I have been learned by many studies that they were specifically designated to help students to reach the goal of producing, processing and distributing healthy animal source foods."

Just one question.Do you have animal source food and plant derived foods in English?

We have meat products (food derived from animals) and fruits, grains and vegetables. I don't know that there is one word meaning "food derived from plants" except maybe vegetable products.
