Hello,

I understand that we normally we use the present simple after if.
Then, which sounds more natural?

1. If it rains this evening, I won't go.
2. If it is going to rain this evening, I won't go.

Top answer

The first is what we'd normally expect. We might say the second if somebody has just told us, perhaps after hearing the weather forecast, that it's going to rain this evening.

Thank you for claryfing.

How about, "If it is raining tonight, I won't go."?
Is this also correct?
