Grammar question.
I was watching Naruto. "Make sure they get back alive." "Don't worry. They will even if it means I don't".
I was wondering why isn't the answer "They will even if it means I won't" or "They will even if I won't" or "They will even if I wouldn't"
I don't get it. Why is the simple present used for a hypothetical situation?
