what is the meaning / function of 'enough' in sentences like these:

"curiously enough, he didn't recognize his old friend"
"interestingly enough, America is now dependent on Africa for a large part of its oil"
"funnily enough, the ones I thought so ugly were the ones that sold out first"
"oddly enough, he hasn't mentioned it"...?

since I'm not a native English speaker, it seems to me that it's simply used to kind of emphasise the adverb. But I'm not quite sure about it so I'd appreciate if anyone here could unconfuse me ;D thank you!
