Should there be a comma before "too," as I was taught many years ago? Also, with the same type usage, would there be a comma before "anyway" or "also"?

Yes, but if too or also is used in the middle of the sentence, no commas are needed.

He too / also is a skilled hunter.


The use of commas here would come off as pedantic to me.
